Play Play Play Play and then more Play

A dusting of snow is enough for the imagination.  And imagination is not fancy – it is not empty dreaming.  It is at the foundation of authentic play – and play is the raw power of manifestation.  If you want a thing – most people believe that it can only be manifested with hard work.  I am not saying that hard work does not help, but I will say that hard work is moot if it is not accompanied or sprinkled with play.  Hard work without play is the “Slog”, the “Daily Grind”, the “Nine-to-Five” and it will manifest more of the same.

But Play – Play, is power.  It is magic.  It is super.  It is true medicine.  It heals, it grows, it thrives, it delights, it manifests and it transforms.  And what is Play?  I don’t think it is easy to pin words to Play.  It is one of those things that you know when you experience it.  For some of us, it is our baseline.  We are usually in a state of play with a few breaks during the day of the “Daily Grind”.  Others – it is the opposite.

Most children live in the former.  Everything is play and therefore children are able to attract what they need every day.  They are fed, they get sleep, they are protected, they have a bedroom and toys, they spend most of their time ‘goofing around’ and no time on the clock making their wages.  They get everything they need without a paycheck.   Because they play.  They manifest through their play.  Through their recognition that life is a game and to play a game, you really need to play.  Throw yourself into it.  100 percent.

NPR agrees in this article.

On Being has a great interview on the same subject.

So Play is the Work of children, they say.  We need them to play.  We don’t need them to ace exams or have a good resume or any of it if they are not playing.  They are the ones who are living in accordance with the laws of the universe.  See what I mean.  I’m a grown up because I used the phrase “Laws of the Universe”.  What bologna!  Now there is a word that lives in play – bologna.  Fun to say and even funnier to read.

So Play.   Secret of the stars – play play and then play.  Play “quarterly taxes” – very funny game.  Play “visit the therapist”.  Haven’t played that game in a few weeks – and therapists are great playmates.

The real masters are of course, children.  And their favorite kind of mutual play is the kind when they know the adult is enjoying himself.  Like cooking sausage outside on a very cold day.  We all had a great time.  And we ate it with our fingers.

It makes me think about the Gospel of Matthew 6, 24-31, especially when you say “Everything is play and therefore children are able to attract what they need every day.” Thank you for this new approach!

“And why worry about clothes? Look how the wild flowers grow: they do not work or make clothes for themselves. But I tell you that not even King Solomon with all his wealth had clothes as beautiful as one of these flowers” Perfect – thank you for that passage!
