Sparkle Screen-Free Bingo

Remember the summer when you were a kid and someone handed you a list of things to do — and you actually wanted to do them? Not because you had to. Not because there was a reward at the end (well, maybe there was a Popsicle). But because the list was good? That’s what we made you.

Introducing the Sparkle Screen-Free Bingo Card — a free printable designed to pull the whole family away from their screens and into the kind of summer that actually sticks in memory. The kind where your kid learns to write a letter. Climbs a tree. Makes a fairy house out of sticks and moss and pure imagination.

Why Bingo?

Because “put down your phone” is not a summer activity. We wanted to give kids (and honestly, grown-ups too) something to move toward — not just something to move away from. Bingo does that. It makes screen-free time feel like a game, not a punishment. And the squares on this card? They’re not chores. They’re invitations.

Go swimming. Make friendship bracelets. Have a dance party. Help a neighbor. Do some yoga. Make paper airplanes and sail them off the back porch.

Each one is small enough to actually do, and fun enough that your kids might not even realize they’re having a screen-free summer. (Don’t tell them. Let it be a surprise.)

What’s on the Card

Twenty activities, five free spaces (for your own brilliant ideas), and enough variety to keep the whole summer interesting. Here’s a taste of what’s in the mix:

  • Write and send a letter — to a grandparent, a pen pal, a friend across town. There is nothing like getting real mail.
  • Make an on-the-go art box — stock a little kit with colored pencils, stickers, and whatever else sparks creativity. Then take it places.
  • Draw your favorite Sparkle character — we may be biased, but we think this one is especially good.
  • Start a nature journal — press a leaf. Sketch a bug. Write about the cloud that looked like a dragon.
  • Go backyard camping — even if “backyard” is a balcony. Even if it’s only until 9pm. It counts. You could even DIY your own collapsible tent for the experience!
  • Make a collage all about you — scissors, magazines, markers, and a whole lot of self-expression.
  • Play a car game — 20 Questions, I Spy, the License Plate Game. Or, you can try The Three Best Car Games we ever made up!

And of course: plant an herb garden, climb a tree, bake a treat with a friend or family member, and make a fairy house (our personal favorite to watch come to life).

How to Play

  1. Print the card. (Link below — it’s free, it’s cute, go print it.)
  2. Try to do as many activities as you can over the summer. Use the free spaces for screen-free activities that are uniquely yours.
  3. Get five in a row for BINGO — or keep going until the whole board is marked off.
  4. Share your results on Instagram or Facebook using #sparklebingo. We genuinely love seeing what families create.

The Secret Ingredient

Here’s the thing about a summer like this: it’s not really about the Bingo card.

It’s about the afternoon your daughter spent gluing magazine cutouts and glitter to a piece of cardboard and called it her masterpiece. It’s about the letter your son wrote to his cousin, in his best (slightly wobbly) handwriting, and actually mailed. It’s about the fairy house you found in the garden three weeks later, still standing, with a tiny acorn cap for a door.

Those are the things that get remembered. The analog, unhurried, made-with-your-hands things.

The Bingo card is just the excuse to get started.

Pair It with a Little Sparkle Magic

If you’re building out your screen-free summer toolkit, we’d love to introduce you to Sparkle Stories — audio stories and songs for kids that spark imagination without a single screen. Perfect for rest time, car rides, winding down at night, or just those in-between moments when you need something gentle and good.
