Fairy Treasure Hunt

Fairy Treasure Hunt

Here at Sparkle, it's no secret that we think fairies ROCK. Which is why we have 199 stories dedicated to fairies across 32 collections! We have a series dedicated singularly to fairy stories, and a series all about fairies in an elementary school, and fairies scattered and mentioned among many of our other audio story collections, too. (We're BIG fairy aficionados).

Fairies bring us everyday magic. They invite us into the natural world. They surprise us by reminding us we aren't alone — ever. Fairies can populate any place, from the backyard to the bus stop, and bring a little extra sparkle, curiosity, and MAGIC to our days.

Which is why we created this extra-Sparkly new activity that the whole family can enjoy to bring some extra fairy magic into our lives with our very own Sparkle Stories Fairy Treasure Hunt! This activity is super-fun and interactive and allows for a lot of flexibility. You can create the treasure hunt using bits and bobs found around your very home. You can make this as elaborate or as simple as you wish. TIP: This would make an AWESOME kiddo birthday party idea!

To start, print out our handy-dandy Sparkle Stories Fairy Treasure Hunt Printable list here to jot down all the fairy treasures your little one(s) need to hunt and gather!

Here's how it works:

1. Start by collecting-up all the fairy “treasures.” You can “magic” them up with some extra sparkles or paint (optional).

Here are some examples of fairy treasures you can scatter around your garden. Best to do them in neat little vignettes. Fairies like pretty things, after all!

  • Thimbles
  • Spools of thread
  • Fairy wand
  • Colorful rocks
  • Ribbons
  • Pinecones
  • Feathers
  • Butterflies
  • Bits of wool roving
  • Beads
  • Buttons
  • Anything sparkly
  • Small flowers
  • Small treats
  • and more!
2. Hide them, hang them, scatter them around your garden (or in your home).
Fairy Treasures in the garden

For us, we used treasures we already had and scattered them in neat little piles for the fairies. Blue crystal beads, a colorful array of buttons (of varying size), a sea of marbles, a cluster of vintage jewels and pearls, a neatly arranged pile of pinecones/fir leaves and thread, two tiny little fairy goblets! Really, whatever you have will work.

3. Let the treasure hunt commence!
Fairy Treasure Hunt 1

To start, let your kiddos familiarize themselves with all the goodies and treasures they are about to go find! Ollie is 4 (and Kaia is 2) so this is also a really great pre-reading exercise as we used our printable to sound out the words of the various items we were about to search for! Ollie really enjoyed this part.

Fairy Treasure Hunt 2

Kaia was the first to find our blue beads and bobbles!

Fairy Treasure Hunt 3

The kiddos were so excited to find this pile of colorful buttons together!

Fairy Treasure Hunt 4

Next up was the sea of blue-green marbles! At this point, the children decided to use their pales to collect up the found treasure easter-egg-hunt style!

Fairy Treasure Hunt 5

Ollie was first to find the spool of colorful threads! This was so great for tiny hand-eye coordination and to learn about all these new things!

4. As your kids find their hidden treasures, they can check them off their list!
Fairy Treasure Hunt Check List

Ollie had so much fun with this part, too! As we found the items he would race back to check them off our Fairy Treasure Hunt check-list! Again, a great opportunity to work on reading as we sounded out the words of the items together!

The kids had SO MUCH FUN with this activity. They were already daydreaming about what sort of fairy goodies we would find during our NEXT Fairy Treasure Hunt! In our home, pirates are also a very big deal, so we decided the next one would have to be Pirate Fairy themed — and that's the beauty of this, it's open-ended to your own interpretation and magic! We hope you enjoy it as much as we did!
