What To Expect: The How To Be Super Summer Camp

If you've just joined the How To Be Super Summer Camp, this is for you!

We're ever so excited to have you! Let me tell you all the things you need to know until camp starts.

Camp Dates

Summer Camp starts on June 18th, and runs all the way to August 10th. For those of you in the Training Plus and Master Class Camps, you'll have live monthly check-in videos each month all the way through January 2019.

Course Format

We're combining:

  • Inspiration from the How to Be Super: Violet Crown story collection
  • short video lessons featuring David
  • and engaging practice exercises to guide children through a process of self-discovery.

We'll release a new video lesson each Monday and Thursday over the eight weeks of the course.

Parents will have the support of a parent handbook and content checklists to guide children in the experience.

In the end, we'll have a closing video and children can be awarded completion certificates.

How will you communicate with me?

You can expect an email each time a lesson is released, and additional communications about live trainings and other course information.

In the middle of May, we will email you the supplies list, as well as introduction to the trainers and a parent handbook.

What is the Camp teaching my kids?

The How To Be Super Summer Camp will help children:

  • develop resilience
  • learn how to "show up" in all aspects of life
  • strengthen empathy and compassion
  • discover the power of honesty and authenticity
  • find strength in humility
  • value "mistakes" and challenges
  • learn how to lead by example

And more! We'll be asking kids to become more aware of themselves and their environment, with the intention that they will gain more self-understanding and, with that, self-appreciation.

What if I have questions?

I've posted our F.A.Q. below, but if you don't find your answer there, feel free to email us any time at howtobesuper@sparklestories.com, and we will be happy to help.

F.A.Q.

Where did we get the idea for this camp?

You guessed it! Of course it's from the How To Be Super - Book One: The Violet Crown story collection.

In those stories, Dante, a 12 year old boy from Austin TX, discovers that he is one of 5 initiates into a secretive band of superheroes. Over the 20 stories, he undergoes superhero training, learning the four-step Prime Power Protocol.

It is this training that we are bringing to life children ages 6-12 in the How To Be Super Summer Camp!

How long do I have access to the camp?

How does lifetime access sound? After enrolling, you have unlimited access to this course for as long as you like - across any and all devices you own.

Can my child do the summer camp completely on her own?

Your child can watch the videos and complete the practice worksheets & projects on her own, however we recommend parent overview of the child's participation in the course. Some of the exercises ask the child to be introspective and self-aware, in ways that may be new to them. Children may want or need parent-engagement in this process. Additionally there are "walks" and adventures that will need family-appropriate boundary & limit setting. Lastly there will be practice worksheets to print and supplies to gather, which will may necessitate parent support.

What if we miss a week of the camp?

You can do this camp at your own pace. Once the course launches, the content will be "dripped" out week by week. Once it's made public, it will be available to you indefinitely, so if you miss a week - no worries! You can catch up before moving on. We do host one live video training, however even that will be available for viewing after it airs.

What is the time commitment for this camp?

There are two videos each week, each roughly 5-7 minutes apiece. There are two practice assignments each week, which we estimate could take anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour and a half or longer, depending on the child and the exercise. The stories themselves offer over 10 hours of content. The inspiration, however, will infuse all 8 weeks!

Does my child need to have listened to the How To Be Super: Violet Crown stories before starting camp?

A download of the How To Be Super - Book One: The Violet Crown collection is included with the camp content, and the campers are invited to listen as we go along. Throughout the camp, the trainers reference key moments in the stories for context and as examples.

Does my child need to be able to read & write to participate?

Not at all. This camp is a combination of videos, practice worksheets and live "trainings." The worksheets can be completed with writing or drawing or both. As long as parents or caregivers are willing to read instructions out loud, you'll be set!

How do the forums work?

In the Training Plus and Master Class Camps, there are "forums" under each video lesson where campers (or parents) can post comments and ask questions. The are set up just like comments on a blog post, where trainers can respond to each comment as they come in.

Can two or more children take the How To Be Super Training Plus or Master Class camps under one registration?

For the Training Plus and Master Class level of the camp, one registration is for a single child. These camp levels are built for a high-level of interaction with the campers; David and the trainers will be supporting children in their practice, discovery and development over the eight weeks. If you'd like for all of your children to participate under one sign-up, then the Basic Camp is for you!

What if I am unhappy with the camp?

We would never want you to be unhappy! If you are unsatisfied with your purchase, contact us in the first 30 days after the start of camp and we will give you a full refund.
