Sparkle Weekly Wonderings: Magic

If you have been a part of Sparkle Stories for a while, you have surely encountered the word “magic” many many times. Just look at this week’s playlist.

For us, the word “magic” is like the word “love” or “wish” or “wonder” — it’s hard to define in words but easy to feel and easy to know in our hearts.

I’ll speak for myself here, but I believe “magic” is what grants wishes. Magic is present whenever something “impossible” happens. Like when you start singing a song from the ‘90s and then turn on the radio — and there it is! Or when you suddenly recall a sweet moment you shared with an old friend and zip, you get a text from them — seemingly out of the blue.

For me, magic is the thickness in the air when I am surprised by something and can’t seem to explain it in ordinary terms. Magic is fuel for Mystery. It is the placeholder for science’s unanswered questions.

And it is how the stories of Sparkle Stories find their way into my heart, out through my voice, and then into your ears. I sit in that listening space and moments later, the exact right story bubbles up inside me. I have no other explanation other than to call it “magic.”

So in this season of birds and blossoms and so so many spring fairies, may we all pause to notice the thickness in the air, the wonderful tension of magic as it attracts the impossible to your door.
