Storybox Playlist — Tales About Strong Girls
January 26, 2016
In this week's Story Box Playlist, the theme is: "Stories of Strong Girls"
This week we are honoring stories of girls who are go getters, idea makers, courageous, brave in the face of adversity and kind. We believe that every girl has a strong girl in her and we hope these stories will inspire the strong girl in your Sparkle Family.
Sister's Sword (from the By Thistle By Thimble series)
A blacksmith and his son are surprised one day to find a young girl whose father was lost in a recent battle for the King. The blacksmith takes her in and raises her as his own, but soon finds that her true father’s courage and sense of adventure is alive and well in the girl — and is strong enough to transform a kingdom.
Sword in the Stump (from the So Many Faries series)
Madeleine loves King Arthur. And she loves to lead her neighborhood friends in a game of Knights of the Round Table, with pretend quests and battles throughout the adjoining back yards. But her favorite part of the game is when she goes to “ask advice of Merlin,” and she stands still and silent next to a tree or behind a garden shed. She enjoys the peaceful feeling that always comes with the moment of silence. One day she is surprised to actually hear an answer! Could it be Merlin?
Mariah the Angus Calf ( from the Sparkle Sleepytime series)
There is something curious and strange about the old horse named Magus - and all the Angus Cattle advise the calves to stay away from him. One calf, however, wonders why Magus seems to know things that the cows don't and how he can seemingly disappear and then reappear somewhere else. When she finally finds out Magus' secret, she realizes that anything the old horse can do, she can do as well.
How to be a Fire Fighter (from the Martin & Sylvia! Saturday series)
Ever since Sylvia saw a fire fighter in action, she has wanted to be a fire fighter. When she and her family get to visit the fire station and see the life of a fire fighter first hand, she learns that she can start her training right away.
The Fairy Book (from the So Many Faires series)
A librarian gives a young lover of books an adventure story. She takes it home and hops on her bed to read about a brave knight appointed to find the seven missing jewels of the seven fairy kingdoms. That night she dreams that she alone can find the jewels using the most powerful tool she has — a book. But when she wakes and reads the ending of the story, she wonders if it was a dream at all.
