The Welcoming Feast: A Video Introduction and New Story

The Welcoming Feast: A Video Introduction and New Story

This week we hear more from Martin and Sylvia’s new friends, the Hadid family – and their honoring of Ramadan.

Some weeks ago, we introduced the Hadids – Rami, Kamila, Lena, Sabeen and Basim – and the three stories of The Welcoming Feast continue to be some of our most listened-to stories.

It delights and encourages us that so many people want to learn about Muslim culture and practices through the Hadid family. We love these new characters, and clearly so do you.

In this video, David talks about how The Welcoming Feast came to be – what inspired it and how we were able to collaborate with several Muslim families who were familiar with our stories.

Enjoy!

Here is the newest story in the Welcoming Feast Collection: "The Generous Month." This story illuminates Ramandan, the Muslim holy month that begins on June 6th this year.

Martin and Sylvia and the Generous Month

In this story:

Martin and Sylvia’s family invites their new friends, the Hadid family, to a Strawberry Festival. They learn that though the Hadids are excited to join them, they needed to take special precautions because the holy Muslim festival of Ramadan has begun. Brother and sister are not familiar with Ramadan but learn that it involves fasting — or not eating food or drinking water during the day. This sounds very difficult to them. But when Rami and Kamila Hadid explain why they fast, Martin and Sylvia begin to understand why some call Ramadan “The Generous Month.”
