Schoolteacher and amateur theatrical director Seamus O’Connor learns that his hero, Oscar Wilde, will be touring the American West giving lectures on beauty and the arts. He sees this as an opportunity not only for himself but for the town, and enrolls Max Denken and Marta Bauer to help him bring the famous playwright to see the Dry Gables summer production. Everything looks promising until the mayor, EB Herz, dashes their hopes and declines to help them. All three react in their own way to the news, and in the end they enjoy an unexpected resolution.
